Sweet Little Chunkies

So, I took Daxton to the doctor yesterday.  He looks great!  He was playing with Dr. Nielsen, and was having a good ol' time--that is until they poked him.  Poor little fella put on the saddest face!  Broke my heart.  However, he wasn't fussy at all after the shots, and a few pokes here and there is better than contracting Pertussis, yes?  Yes.

I pulled out Makayla's stats from when she was a babe to see how she compared to Dax.  He is much smaller than she was (I know, I know! That is hard to believe!)  I know that it is hard to compare since boys should naturally be a little bigger, but here are the stats in comparison:

Makayla 2 Weeks
21" long--75%
9 lbs .5oz-- 75%
36cm head-- 50%

Daxton 2 Weeks
20 3/4' long-- 45%
7lbs 7 oz-- 20 %
35.2 cm head-- 15%

Makayla 2 Months
25" long-- >95%
15 lbs 9.5 oz-- > 95%
40.6 cm head-- 90%

Daxton 2 Months
24" long-- 85%
13 lbs 4.5 oz-- 85%
38.1 cm head-- 15%

Makayla 4 Months
26 1/4" long-- >95%
18 lbs 1 oz-- >95%
42 cm head-- 75%

Daxton 4 Months
25 1/2" long-- 70%
16 lbs 5 oz-- 80%
40.2 cm head-- 8%

Makayla 6 Months
27 1/2" long-- 95%
20 lbs 11.5 oz-- >95%
44.2 cm head-- 90%

Daxton 6 Months
27 1/4" long-- 80%
19 lbs 6 oz--80%
42.3 cm head-- 15%

Sad, sad Bubbas.

Valentine's Day

I have always kinda liked Valentine's Day.  I will admit that it is a better holiday when you have someone to share it with (Love you, Devin!) but I still think it is fun to celebrate love, even if it isn't a romantic love.  Makayla is getting to that age where she gets really excited for holidays.  I decided to do a few fun things with her to introduce her to the fun of Valentine's Day.

First thing when we woke up, we made pancakes.  Not just pancakes, heart pancakes!  She was thrilled.

Sometimes I get on Pinterest to look for ideas on cute hair styles for little girls.  Makayla loves to look at them with me and pick stuff out.  She is an ANGEL when I do her hair--truly.  Some mornings I wake up to her tapping my face requesting a specific hair-do. Her hair is getting longer and thicker, so we are able to do some pretty sweet styles. Here is her heart-do.  She always makes me take pictures so she can see it.

My friend Whitney brought over her little girl that morning to decorate cookies.  Makayla likes to look at pictures of Emery on Facebook, so she gets excited when she actually gets to play with her.
 Whitney and Em
 So creative.

What cookie would be complete without sprinkles?
Just hanging out watching the fun.
 Cute girls.

For dinner, I thought it would be fun to have a heart theme.  Makayla LOVES to help me cook. Especially when it comes to anything involving dough.  I have to usually give her a separate bowl with stuff to stir when I making food that other people will be eating.  She is a mini Betty Crocker in the making.

Our first heart-shaped item of food was mini pizzas.  We love pizza at our house, and we make it quite often.  Makayla had a blast making the heart shapes with the dough.

It takes every ounce of energy in me not to stop her from making things sloppy.  Dang OCD!  I just have to remember that she is only two and still learning.  She is a great listener when we cook, so that makes it a lot easier to have her "help" me. (Check out that post-nap hair. B-e-a-utiful!)

 Ta-da!
We also made some garlic rolls in the shape of a heart. Yum!

We were also lucky enough to get a visit from both sets of grandparents.  Makayla and Daxton are two lucky little ones to be loved so much!

Valentine's Day sure is different with two kids involved, but I wouldn't change a dang thing!

Library

Makayla loves going to the Library for Discovery Time.  We have not been all Winter (slacker mom!) She was thrilled to go last week with her cousins.  She loves to sing and dance, and she is best friends with anyone who will read a book to her, so the Library is the perfect place.

These pictures were taken on my phone--not the best quality.  Oopsie.  This is her teacher, and the little guy in red in front of her is Makayla's cousin, Korbin.  He was totally into the lesson, and Makayla was being clingy.  Normally they are opposite of that, but oh well.  They both had fun and that is all that matters.
 Our favorite part: BUBBLES!

Aubree (my niece) got in on the action, too!
 Just hangin' out--as usual.

The teacher let Makayla hold the puppet doggy for a minute.  She liked the dog.

Sledding

Devin is in the Elders Quorum Presidency in our ward, and it was his turn to remove snow at the church this week.  It had snowed Friday, so on Saturday morning we packed up the kiddos and went for a little time of service.  We took a sled with us and it turned out to be a big hit!

There was no hill, but our sled had a rope attached to it that made it easy to pull behind us.  I ran around that parking lot with Makayla for about 20 minutes.  I was a tired mommy!  She had a
blast --and she really had a blast when Daddy ran with her because he is fast.

 Great workout!

Poor little thing didn't want to stop!

Cakes

So, I like making cakes.  I guess I just like creating things.  I like making them for fun, so they are nothing special.  I told Devin I just want to make cool cakes for my kids' birthdays.  Makayla has already picked out about 20 cakes she likes on Pinterest.  It will be interesting to see what she picks out for her birthday.

I made this guy the night the Jazz played the Lakers.  I was secretly hoping they would sweep the Lakers so I could do a happy dance.  Sadly, they lost that night (okay, okay...they took a beating).  However, the cake tasted good and that made me feel better.

My sister-in-law Rachel had a baby shower a week or so ago.  The invitation had a jungle theme on it, so I stuck with that.  I made the cake the day before, because I knew my Saturday would be busy.  I was sad to wake up and see that the fondant had settled.  It was too thin, so it looks wavy.  Fail.  Oh well, this one tasted good too, so I wasn't too worried.

5 Months

Sweet Daxton boy is five months old (well, 6 months old this weekend, but this picture was taken a month ago). We love him.  He is such a sweet blessing in our home.  I think I spend multiple minutes every day snuggling him and just thinking about how much I love him.  I am so grateful
I get to be his mommy.
