Feeding the Ducks

We went up to Beus' Pond for Family Night tonight.  We had a picnic, fed the ducks, then walked around the mini parkway.  Makayla had so much fun!
I had to take the opportunity to take some pictures.  It was like 85 degrees today!  I love this picture.  When Makayla sees a camera, she yells "cheese!" and pulls a face similar to this one.  I got a few normal ones, but this one just seemed to stand out.  I may just have to frame it and put it next to her bed.

I get so excited to get home a load my pictures onto the computer.  I will be so glad someday to have these precious moments.

So here we are teaching the little stink bug how to properly feed the ducks.  She did okay in the beginning.  She threw the bread an entire twelve inches in front of her!
She did a lot better when Daddy grabbed her as the geese and ducks got close.  She got a little nervous when they got a few inches away, especially when they would honk at her.
I missed the moment, but they actually ate from her hand a few times.  She would get scared and then immediately excited.

This is a great place for family pictures!  I think I will have to go back when we are all wearing better clothes and Makayla's hair is actually done.  There is some great scenery up there.
Again with the "cheese!" face.  Good times.
I don't know what this face is.
I don't think any little girl loves her daddy as much as Makayla.  She just adores him.  Melts my heart :)
This is Makayla giving Mommy 'monkey hugs'.  She basically holds onto your neck and squeezes as hard as she can.  She tends to make funny faces when she is doing it.  We had so much fun, and it was so nice to get outside in the nice weather.  However, if it is this hot in April, I am really worried for August....ahhhhh!

Something Smells Fishy.....

Last Saturday morning, Devin went fishing with a buddy of his.  Makayla and I were busily crafting when her daddy walked through the door with this lovely little trout.  Did I say little?  Wait.....is was a large trout!  19 and 1/2 inches long.  Devin was so proud of himself.

I wondered if Makayla would be nervous at all, but wow....she wasn't nervous at all.  Can you see that little face?  She was so excited about the fish.
I had to boost her up to the counter so she could help Daddy cut the fish all up.  She didn't show one sign of hesitation.  Maybe she will be an outdoorsy type of girl.

Busy Momma

So, I am the type of person that can't let things stay the same too long--especially when I am pregnant. I am a fan of rearranging furniture, painting, creating things.....you get it. Well, Makayla's room has been the same since I finished it two years ago, and I thought it was okay, but not quite up to snuff. I caught a couple of warm days, bought a new toddler bed (have to give that crib to new baby brother soon), was given an old dresser, and refinished a few odds and ends we had around the house to create this....
Her room already had the green walls below the trim, but I added the stripes. The white I used always seemed a little too white for me (I guess I am picky pants or something?) so I had to add a little more jazz. I love the way the stripes turned out. It was a lot simpler than I thought it would be, and I did it while Makayla was sleeping one afternoon. She liked it when I showed her.
My mom helped me fashion the curtains while I was pregnant with Makayla, so they have always been there. I took an old TV stand (right corner) that was black and painted it black. I then added some little curtains to hid the shelves. I put some of her toys in some drawer type things on the shelves, but I hate the unorganized look, so I had to add the curtains. It just looks cleaner :)
I still have plans to make her a comforter set with matching pillow cases and things, but I need to wait for a good sale on fabric. I think I need to stick with the pink and green theme. I saw a super cute idea on ebay, but wasn't willing to pay 80 freakin' bucks for it, so I think I will just do my best to copy it. I will have to post when I get that done. My goal is to finish before baby boy arrives this summer!
This table used to be in my classroom. It was falling apart! The top was covered in paint, crayon, pencil, marker. You name it, it was on the table--first grade people, first grade. I went through and tightened all the bolts then went to work with some paint I got for free about a year ago with some coupons. I always had plans for the free paint, but it took me a while for really decide what I wanted to do with it. Once I moved all the baby furniture into our other room, I realized there would be plenty of room for Makayla to have the table in her room, so I fixed it up. She LOVES to put her doll on one chair and she sits in the other.
Ah, the dresser. We got this beast from Devin's Grandpa. As you can still tell, the body of the dresser is very much a styling from the 50's/60's. When we got it some handles were missing and it was a hideous wood. I primed, painted, and fixed all the handles to match. I think it turned out really well, and I love that I have more space for Makayla's things. Have I mentioned I like to keep things clean and organized? :)

Easter Fun

For a few years I didn't really like holidays like Easter. It was a little bit lame to fill an Easter basket for Devin and myself just to celebrate. Makayla, however, has totally changed holidays around our house. She gets so excited! She was telling me about the Easter Bunny and that he would bring, in her words, "num nums".

To get her into the whole idea of hunting Easter eggs, we took her to the South Ogden Easter Egg Hunt on the Saturday morning before Easter. She was in the 0-2 age group, and she claimed quite a few eggs. We weren't sure how many she would get, or if she would even understand the concept, but when I told her the eggs had "num nums" in them, she went crazy. She filled her basket within about a minute and I had to start ramming some in my pockets so she could keep going. She was so cute. Once we finished she immediately wanted to open the eggs to get all the goodies out. What can I say? My child is very fond of candy :-).

This was shortly after she was told about the "num nums". She probably had enough eggs to fill that basket twice by the time we were done.

Here is our little miss on Easter morning. Apparently our Saturday activities wore her out. We woke her up, because Devin had church meetings and didn't want to miss the fun. It is hard to wake a kid that is sleeping so well...
The Easter Bunny left out a basket, and hid some eggs around the house. She was so thrilled to get candy.
The egg hunt the day before was a good idea, because she knew exactly what to do when it came to the real deal on Easter morning.
Here she is when she sees her basket for the first time. She went straight for the gobstoppers. She loves those things.
Thrilled to pieces to have collected all of her eggs.
